The Director for Southeastern Europe of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Daniel Kaddik said the Liberal Party (PL) didn’t deviate at all from the provisions agreed with the European partners in the meeting at the Chisinau Airport. He expressed his bewilderment at the statement of the President of the European People’s Party Joseph Daul, who said that the PL left no other alternative to the two pro-European parties than the formation of a minority government or early elections that would have plunged the country into a profound political crisis, IPN reports.
In a press release, Daniel Kaddik says the accord agreed together with the European political dialogue partners was denounced and reformulated by the PDM, through its leader Marian Lupu. He yet voices hope that an alliance between the three Democratic political parties will be ultimately constituted as these parties should realize that they bear common responsibility not only for the pro-European vote expressed by the Moldovan people, but also for the future course of the country.
The official of the German foundation noted that he supports the position of the leader of the PL Mihai Ghimpu concerning the depoliticization of the key state institutions. “Not only fair play is needed for a functional coalition, but also an algorithm according to which to distribute the ministerial posts and portfolios. I ascertain with regret that this desideratum could not be reached in the negotiations, but the Liberal Party should not be blamed for this,” reads the press release.
On January 20, the leaders of the pro-European parties – the PLDM, PDM and PL – had consultations with the President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party Graham Watson, Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok, who represented the European People’s Party, and Vice Chairman of the Group of Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Knut Fleckenstein. The meeting was held at the Chisinau International Airport.
