Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun assured that the blocks of “Ion Creangă” State Teacher Training University will be further managed by the educational institution and will be used exclusively for teaching purposes. The statement was made amidst concerns raised by the academic community about the intention of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office to base its head office in one of the university’s blocks, IPN reports.

Dan Perciun noted that supporting teacher training and teachers is a priority for the Ministry of Education and the Government. This year, the Ministry will increase the allowances for pedagogy graduates who choose to go to school to 200,000 lei and will start the full renovation of two dormitories for future teachers with a budget of €3 million - one of the State University and one of the “Ion Creangă” State Teacher Training University.

In a  public petition, the academic community of the university expressed its discontent with the intention to base the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office in a block of study of the university. This is located at 5 Yablochkin St and houses the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies, scientific laboratories and the Faculty of Educational Sciences.

In reaction, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said that that Parliament in 2016 and August 2023 adopted laws stipulating that the Government will provide the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office with headquarters. Over the past months, several options for the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office were considered. The building at 5 Gennady Yablochkin St was identified as “ideal for the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, given its area, location, inner courtyard, access for special vehicles, meeting rooms, offices and other conditions in terms of infrastructure and functionality of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.”
