Czech Republic along with other EU member countries will not recognize the legitimacy of the Tiraspol referendum

The Czech Republic, along with other European Union member states and the USA, will not recognize the results of the so-called “referendum” organized by the leaders from Tiraspol, and qualified it as illegal and without political legitimacy. Czech president Vaclav Klaus made this declaration during a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Vladimir Voronin, during a private visit of the latter in the Czech Republic. According to the Presidential Press Service, the two heads of state exchanged opinions regarding the current status and the perspectives of Moldovan-Czech collaborations. The presidents have appreciated the fact that the bilateral relations of the Republic of Moldova and the Czech Republic are very good and that there are no misunderstandings between the two states. Also the bilateral relations development in different fields, especially in the commercial-economic field, was also discussed, together with the potential for Czech investment in the national economy of the Republic of Moldova, mainly in energetic area, infrastructure, transportation and medicine. President Vladimir Voronin informed Vaclav Klaus about the measures taken by the Republic of Moldova in the European integration process, referring to the implementation of the RM – EU Action Plan, the SEECP, CEFTA (Central European Free Trade Agreement) and the Energetic Community Treaty joining process, the intentions of the Republic of Moldova to start negotiations with the European Committee for Asymmetrical Commercial Preferences Regime and the Agreement of visa issuance for citizens of our country. The head of state also expressed regards to the Czech side for its aid in the European Union structures. President Vaclav Klaus declared that the Czech Republic supported and will keep supporting the Republic of Moldova in its European integration intentions, as well as in the EU negotiation about the Asymmetric Commercial Preferences Regime and the Agreement of issuance of visas for Moldovan citizens. At the end of the meeting, president Voronin invited his Czech counterpart to an official visit to the Republic of Moldova, invitation accepted by the Czech Republic’s president. Vladimir Voronin was in the Czech Republic since August 30, in his traditional vacation in Karlovy Vary.
