Road freight carriers will be able to schedule in advance their crossing through customs posts when transiting or leaving the Republic of Moldova. The Customs Service launches the digital system for scheduled crossing - BQS - Border Queuing System, IPN reports.

The system will be piloted from January 30 at the Costești customs post.

"This service represents an important step in solving traffic congestion at the border, facilitating the activity of carriers and contributing to the modernization of customs services," said Alexandru Iacub, director of the Customs Service.

The redirection of goods from Ukraine to the EU, through Moldova, in particular periods led to the formation of lines of trucks, mostly from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, at the border with Romania. At the customs posts located on the Moldovan-Romanian border, an average of 30,000 trucks are monthly authorized to leave for the EU. Carriers spend 40-90% of the transit time at the border, especially at Moldovan-Romanian border crossing points, said the Customs Service.

The BQS online platform is connected to the physical infrastructure of the Customs Border Posts, which allows automated traffic management. It was developed with the support of USAID Moldova, through the Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity.

BQS will be available online on desktop and in mobile app form through the App Store and Play Store.
