The current Government is profaning the idea of Moldova’s European integration and this idea can no longer be promoted by the political leaders as until now, political analyst Igor Botan, director of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT, said in the public debate ”Culture of political crisis: views and roles of civil society organizations in the process of overcoming and communication with society”, staged by IPN.

”Those who caused the political crisis should step aside now and show that they act in a European manner. They should not keep to their posts. I believe them when they say that they promote the people’s interests, but I think their personal interests prevail,” said Igor Botan.

According to him, it seems that the integration into the EU became a mantra for the Moldovans. “The political elite disappointed us. The European integration process is a strategic one. We go towards this goal, slowly, but steadily. The politicians did what they could in this respect,” said the analyst.

As to some politicians’ statements that Moldova will not sign the Association Agreement with the EU this November, Igor Botan said we should not lose hope because of this. “We do not have the prospect of joining the EU now and will not have it soon. But if we forgive the politicians now, many generations of Moldovans will still ascertain that Moldova is a young state without experience,” Igor Botan said, making reference to the statements that civil society in Moldova is not yet mature.

The debate ”Culture of political crisis: views and roles of civil society organizations in the process of overcoming and communication with society” is the 15th of the series of public debates held by IPN News Agency within the project “Development of political culture by public debates,” which is supported by Hanns Seidel Foundation.
