The difficult geopolitical situation in the region is favorable to the ruling political class and helps it remain in power even if it discredited itself from all viewpoints, said experts invited to the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

Analyst Victor Ciobanu considers namely Moldova’s geographic position holds interest for the West. “Moldova’s geographic location is important for the EU and the United States, while the difficult geopolitical situation in the region favors our politicians. The people voted geopolitically in the last two elections. The message of the politicians of the right was close to blackmail - either we or a situation similar to that in Donbas. They transmit almost the same message to Brussels,” he stated.

Analyst Sergiu Tofilat considers the Moldovans do not have an alternative and thus choose geopolitically. “We do not have alternative pro-European politicians whom we can trust. In our country, half of the population is for integration into the EU, while the other half is for integration into the Customs Union. Let’s imagine that we have elections tomorrow and Igor Dodon’s party and other pro-Russian parties come to power. The situation in the country will definitely not improve,” he said.

Expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Victor Parlicov said a time will come when not even the geopolitical situation will help the current government because the profound crisis faced by the country can lead to uprisings. “Without financing from outside, the government will be unable to remedy the situation. They may resort to issuing lei in order to be able to pay salaries and pensions. But this money could not be covered with currency and the Moldovan leu would ultimately depreciate,” he stated.
