The Coalition for Unity and Welfare (CUB) party is inventing all pro-European forces to join a consensus-based platform championing Moldova’s integration into the European Union.

CUB envisages the platform as forum of consultations among pro-European political parties and the president, which will also aim to strengthen the strategic partnership between the governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, with the goal of speeding up Moldova’s accession to the EU.

CUB president Igor Munteanu expressed his concerns about “several warning signs ahead of the upcoming local elections, with groups appearing in various parts of the country that have dubious funding and leaders tied to former oligarchs, but also recent remarks about the possibility of a so-called ‘Gagauz republic’ and other inflammatory ideas, which can cause instability”. CUB finds that “these warning signs are directly connected to a lack of notable progress in the justice reform and the sabotage of the de-oligarchization and de-offshorizartion processes, which create fertile ground for new abuses”.

CUB secretary general Igor Klipii declared that Moldova is “brought to the brink of bankruptcy”. “The PAS government has adopted a decision-making system contrary to democratic norms. Under the guise of a state of emergency, the Commission for Exceptional Situations was established, which in fact turned into a tool to favor the political power of the PAS. It is a tool that gobbles up public money, bypassing all transparency procedures and without any public debate”, Klipii said.
