The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office examined the case of cave-in on Miron Costin St in Chisinau and ordered taking legal action over poor execution of works. A bank on a building site fell down last night. As a result, the sidewalk and the stairs at the entrance to a commercial bank were damaged, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office says that it ordered the creation of a joint investigation group that includes prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office. The specialists will investigate all the circumstances of this case, including the actions of the decision makers of the public authorities that authorized the works.
The penalty for such an offense is a fine of up to 12,000 lei or up to five years in jail, while the legal entity is punished with a fine of up to 200,000 lei, ban on performing particular activities or liquidation of the legal entity.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, there was constituted a working group for monitoring and coordinating the intervention works. Night lighting systems were set up and engineering research was carried out in the affected area.
Rescuers examined the building of the bank, took away the machinery from the building site and stopped the cave-in by covering with earth the bank that collapsed. Measures were taken to secure the area. The persons who were nearby were evacuated.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca travelled to the scene last night. He said entrance to the bank will be banned until building experts allow access.
