A criminal case was started over corruption of voters and illegal financing of parties. In Balti, anticorruption officers raided the office of a political party and other locations and documented multiple episodes of corruption of voters so that these could obtain illicit rewards for exercising their right to vote, IPN reports, with reference to the National Anticorruption Center (NAC).
In another case, six representatives of the same party are suspected of having offered money to voters to make them vote in a particular way in the October 20 election. In this regard, searches were carried out in several localities in Nisporeni and Straseni districts, in two criminal cases concerning electoral corruption.
Also, a man from northern Moldova was detained in a case of influence peddling. He allegedly asked for 60,000 lei to influence a court decision. Currently, 12 people, arrested in the cases started by the NAC, are in custody.
The NAC also said that its Criminal Assets Recovery Agency seized assets totaling over 11 million lei in a case of passive corruption, falsification of public documents, tax evasion and fraud last week. Among them are a nonresidential building, a residential space and two nonresidential areas, four lots of farmland and two lots for construction, and also cash.
