A rise in the number of COVID-19 cases was reported in the municipality of Chisinau last week. Therefore, two medical institutions activated their COVID-19 wards:  Municipal Ftiziopneumology Hospital and Municipal Children’s Infections Diseases Hospital. Specialists warn that the pandemic situation has worsened and the incidence of 167 cases per 1000,000 people means a red alert needs to be issued in the capital city, IPN reports.

In the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services, Boris Gîlca, acting head of the General Social Assistance and Health Division, said that 3,789 persons with mild and medium forms of the disease are under supervision. The medical institutions provide a total of 645 beds for persons infected with COVID-19. The Chisinau City Hall is ready to also activate wards at other municipal hospitals.

Mayor Ion Ceban asked to step up the activity of mobile vaccination units and to ensure transparency in the process of purchasing tests for COVID-19 intended for teaching staff and auxiliary personnel of schools and kindergartens. “We cannot allow the education system employees to bear this financial burden themselves as we risk compromising the education system if the staff leaves. We are also making effort and will continue to insist on the vaccination of teachers and of all the citizens of the capital city, not by forcing them to, but by informing them about the benefits of immunization, by communication and persuasion,” he stated.
