The court of law that invalidated the Chisinau early mayoral elections discussed the right of the voter without involving this into the process, which shouldn’t have been witnessed, lawyer Eduard Digore stated in the talk show “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
According to him, the court of law couldn’t have put the intimate conviction of the judge at the basis of the examination. Special knowledge was needed in this case to ascertain how the elections were influenced. “The judge should have said that he needs to consult a specialist, an expert who would have ascertained how the elections were influenced. How many people were influenced to vote by that agitation on Facebook, on the personal website of the contender, how many weren’t decided to vote in elections, how many read, went to vote and voted for him?” stated the lawyer.
He noted that the citizen was in the center of the process, but this wasn’t represented. “I see that the court put my rights in discussion without attracting me. From procedural viewpoint, this should have been omitted. The court should have stopped at the findings of the CEC, the other courts and observers and at the evidence provided by the election runners,” noted the jurist.
The leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase said the court decision can be reviewed if the sides ask for this. “In the current situation, given that it is an ordered and executed political decision, surely they can decide politically if an institution, I mean the Chisinau District Electoral Council, or eventually an instrument of the Democratic Party, Ion Ceban or the Party of Socialists, file an application to review the relevant arguments in accordance with the Civil Procedure Code,” he stated.
The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu said an abuse was committed by invalidating the elections and the government should admit this abuse and punish those who committed it. “They should come up with a solution. Not Brussels says that the elections should be rerun. Everyone says the elections should be validated,” she noted.
