A married couple from Edineț district was sentenced to 6 years in prison for forcing a man to work for them for a year. The defendants took advantage of the victim's vulnerability by making to him false promises of remuneration. They did not admit their guilt in court, IPN reports.
According to prosecutors in Edineț, in April 2022, the 51-year-old woman and her 43-year-old husband persuaded, through false promises of remuneration, a 41-year-old man to work for them. The work involved taking care of animals, cleaning, doing agricultural works and other domestic chores daily, between 06:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
The exploitation of the victim continued until March 2023. Following his attempts to leave the household where he was forced to work, the man was stripped of his mobile phone, and the owner of the house constantly used physical violence against the worker.
The spouses were convicted of forced labor and got 6 years in prison. They were also banned from holding managerial positions in enterprises, institutions, organizations for a period of 4 years.
