Consultations on Transnistrian issue take place in Odessa

Consultations on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict take place on October 17-18 in Odessa, Ukraine. The consultations will take place in 2 stages. In the first one a “3+2” format meeting will be organized (mediators of Ukraine, Russia, OSCE and the observers of USA and EU), within which the situation created in the settlement process will be discussed. As well, the possible ways of resuming the negotiation process will be discussed. On October 18, within the frameworks of the “5+1” format consultations (mediators, observers, Moldovan and Transnistrian sides) a special attention will be paid to returning Chisinau and Tiraspol to the negotiation table as the single possibility of settling the conflict. The “5+2” negotiations ended at the end of February, because the sides could not reach an agreement on several issues especially on the problem of peasants from Dorotcaia, who are prohibited to cultivate their plots situated in the zone controlled by the regime headed by Igor Smirnov.
