The election contenders will be able to take out interest-free loans from the state for conducting the campaign prior to the snap parliamentary elections of July 11. The loans will be fully or partially repaid by the state depending on the total number of votes won by the contenders in elections. The competitors that will poll less than 3% of the vote will repay the loans received from the state budget, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Finance in a draft order stipulates the method of calculating the amount of the loan that is to be cleared by the state. This way, the loan is divided by the number of voters who cast their ballots and the result is multiplied by the number of valid votes for the given election contender.

Interest-free loans are provided to political parties, other sociopolitical organizations and electoral blocs whose lists of candidates were registered by the Central Election Commission and also to independent candidates registered by the CEC. The applicants must present a series of documents to the Ministry of Finance to get such loans.

The CEC decided that the interest-free loans for the runners in the snap parliamentary elections of July 11 will be: 50,000 lei for each political party, sociopolitical organization and electoral bloc and 10,000 lei for each independent candidate.

The election competitors that will gain less than 3% of the poll and the unelected independent candidates will repay the loans received from the state budget within two months of the end of voting. The other runners will clear the loans within four months of the end of voting.

The contenders that withdraw from the race will have to repay the interest-free loan released by the state for conducting the election campaign within two months of the withdrawal of the candidate. The repayment period for the competitors removed from the race is of two months of day the relevant court decision remains final.
