A management information system in higher education (SIMIS) will be implemented in the Republic of Moldova. The system is described by the Ministry of Education and Research as a unique and complete information resource on the work of national higher education institutions. The decision on the implementation of the system was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

In the Cabinet’s meeting, secretary of state at the Ministry of Education and Research Adriana Cazacu said the implementation of the information system will streamline the educational management of higher education and will contribute to its debureaucratization. The open data, provided by SIMIS, will provide educational institutions with the opportunity to extend the participation of civil society representatives, parents, all citizens of the country in planning and conducting the educational process.

Also, SIMIS will furnish the Ministry of Education and Research, other central and local public authorities, higher education institutions with updated data on the education system. These could be used for strategic analysis and planning, development of educational policies, monitoring and evaluation of their impact.

At the same time, the automation of the higher education system will enable to better organize the activities of higher education institutions, in cooperation with the Ministry. SIMIS will provide access to information about higher education institutions, students, teaching and scientific-didactic staff, study documents and qualifications. Conditions will be created, including for identifying cases of falsification of official documents, optimizing the use of tangible assets and financial means allocated by the state.

The management information system in higher education will be implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research and the Center for Information and Communication Technology in Education, together with local public authorities and higher education institutions.
