The Tennis Federation of Moldova approved the official composition of the national team for the Fed Cup 2016 and familiarized the ITF with it. Moldova’s team, which will compete in Zone III of the tournament in April, consists of Daniela Ciobanu, Iulia Helbet, Alexandra Zaicenco, and Vitalia Stamat, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the Federation, the Federation’s administration decided not to include Anastasia Vdovenco in the national team. As a result, Alexandra Perper refused to represent the country at this tournament. It was thus decided to choose young players for the Fed Cup 2016.
As tennis amateurs inquired about the absence of Anastasia Vdovenco from the team, the Federation’s president Marina Tauber specified that nobody excluded this player and the attitude to her didn’t change, especially after she was named the best tennis player of 2015 in her age category. “The decision not to include Anastasia in the national team this year wasn’t well thought out and reasoned. It was a rather difficult decision for me personally given that last year I had the honor to be the captain of this team,” stated Marina Tauber.
She also said she regrets Alexandra Perper’s refusal to represent Moldova at this competition, given her recent results. “It is her right, but I think that Alexandra’s decision is nonprofessional from the viewpoints of sport and of the interests of the team and the country. However, we must see the positive side of things as the given situation represents a chance for the young talents,” said Marina Tauber.
The regulations allow modifying the composition of the national team. Thus, the Tennis Federation of Moldova specifies that all those who consider that they deserve a place on the team for the Fed Cup 2016, can file applications to the Federation’s secretariat by March 17.
