A Dutch citizen who managed a company was given a three-year suspended sentence after two employees of the company died after inhaling toxic gases. The Edineț district prosecutor's office said that the 37-year-old man did not ensure the observance of the labor protection rules and a tragedy occurred as a result on June 29, 2022, IPN reports.

According to the investigation, in the period 2019-2022, the manager did not ensure safe working conditions, did not equip employees with appropriate protective equipment and did not assess the risks at work. As a result of this negligence, two employees lost their lives in a sewer well located on the presents of a dairy farm owned by the company.

The court also ordered that the defendant should pay 300,000 lei in respect of non-pecuanry damages to the families of the victims. The sentence is not final and can be appealed.

Prosecutors emphasize the importance of complying with occupational safety norms and employers' responsibility to protect employees' lives.
