The attempts to corrupt lawmakers are a set-up aimed at making the MPs look like victims, Communist MP Grigore Petrenco said in the program “In Depth” on Pro TV channel. On the other hand, the lawmakers of the Pro-European Coalition deny the accusations, saying those to blame must be punished, IPN reports.

According to Grigore Petrenco, there is confusion over this matter as it’s not clear why MP Anatol Arhire wasn’t arrested by the National Anticorruption Center on suspicion of corruption. “Why an intermediary was arrested, while the author was not? When the government controls the police, they can do anything. They make victims of themselves. Why didn’t the National Anticorruption Center take steps when Igor Dodon, Vadim Misin, Sergiu Sarbu and others left their parties? I think this is a scenario designed to make somebody look like victims,” stated the lawmaker.

The leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet denied these accusations, saying the investigation will show who is to blame for the corruption of MPs? He said that hearings will be held in Parliament or in the Parliament’s security commission. He added he does not believe that Anatol Arhire is involved in such schemes. According to him, a group of people is trying to ‘prove’ that the MPs are corruptible.

Democratic MP Dumitru Diacov also denied the assertions of Grigore Petrenco, saying somebody is attempting to discredit the government coalition.

Last week, the National Anticorruption Center arrested two persons suspected of attempting to corrupt MPs. In an audio recording made public, two persons discuss actions that can be interpreted as attempt to corrupt the lawmaker of the Liberal Reforming Party Anatol Arhire.
