Communists form the majority in the Balti Municipal Council, with a 26-strong faction, Info-Prim Neo reports. At the Council's inaugural meeting on June 23, besides the Communists, the five freshly elected Liberal-Democrat councilors also managed to form a faction. Two councilors representing the Democratic Party and two other representing the Liberal Party were not able to crate formal factions due to the low number of members. Also at the inaugural meeting, the Balti councilors elected Irina Serdiuk as the Council's Secretary. There is no permanent chairperson in the Balti Council; he or she is selected by rotation from among the 35 councilors. At the same meeting, the Council created five permanent commissions, four of which are headed by Communist councilors: the Economic Commission, the Municipal Management Commission, the Social Commission, and the Culture and Tourism Commission. The Legal and Discipline Commission went to PLDM.
