The Chisinau Municipal Council decided to place a moratorium on the construction of several gas stations in Chisinau. Thus, the building of the stations located on the streets Calea Iesilor, Nicolae Dimo, Mihail Sadoveanu, Melestiu and Renasterii Blvd will be suspended for a year. A decision to this effect was unanimously approved in the February 18 meeting of the Council, IPN reports.
The decision was drafted by independent councilor Ion Stefanita with the support of the Urban Ecologist Movement. According to the councilor, some of the service stations are now located too close to each other, near parks, squares and monuments.
The decision bans the issuing of new authorizations and licenses for building gas stations until a new municipal scheme for the placement of service stations is worked out.
According to the public association Urban Ecologist Movement, in the municipality of Chisinau there are by 95 gas stations more than provided in the municipal scheme for the placement of service stations. The legislation provides that the gas stations must be situated at a distance of 25 meters from homes and of 50 meters from schools and nurseries.
