The close score between the contenders for the mayoralty of Chisinau shows the mayor should work for all the voters, those who voted for him and those who didn’t vote for him. At the same time, the victory of the right in the mayoral elections is an advantage, but also a trap for the victorious parties, said invitees from the panel of a special edition on ProTV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

Igor Munteanu, director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”, said the technocratic offer proposed by the Democratic Party failed in the first round of the mayoral elections, while in the runoffs a failure was suffered by the ideological offer. In the runoff vote, the struggle was for the voters who chose Silvia Radu in the first round of voting. Andrei Nastase is not a mayor wanted by the government and this will try to place obstacles to him. Nastase will have to strengthen his team so as not to disappoint his voters. At the same time, the victory in the runoffs will make his team more enthusiastic and in this autumn’s parliamentary elections this will adjust its messages for an eventual victory.

Journalist Vasile Botnaru said the electoral campaign was good not only because the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” and the Party “Action and Solidarity” had common activities, but also because they created common staffs. A sincere narrative actually counted for the voters. Socialist candidate Ion Ceban was much more than what the Party of Socialists could produce. “Any other candidate would have been simply the representative of the Socialists, with ideological load,” he stated.

With 99.35% of the votes being counted, Andrei Nastase emerged victorious with 52.58% of the ballot.
