The labels put on footwear on sale can be in written form or in the form of a pictogram, but should be visible, well-applied and accessible. The label should be imprinted or applied on the footwear item and should appear on at least one of the elements that comprise the pair of shoes. The new rules concerning labeling of materials used to make footwear were approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.

Under the bill, producers will be responsible for the supply of labels and for the accuracy of these. In the case of imported products, this obligation belongs to the person who introduces for the first time the footwear article on the market. Traders are responsible for the way in which the footwear with appropriate labels is sold.

“By this bill, the consumers are ensured a higher level of protection and the right to information by making the business entities more responsible and by improving the national normative framework concerning labeling of footwear and footwear articles,” said Vadim Gumene, secretary of state of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization.
