Ilie Ceban, the Deputy Mayor of the capital, along with praetors, municipal councilors and other City Hall officials, laid flowers at the Ștefan cel Mare monument, then laid flowers on the Alley of Classics. The event was followed by the official opening of the celebration on a makeshift stage in the capital's Central Park.

Arcadie Suceveanu, chair of the Moldovan Union of Writers, said that the celebration of the Romanian language is "a bitter-sweet celebration". "The Romanian language in our country is still sometimes playing the Cinderella role in its own home". Language is the bond that holds everyone together and is our every day identity card, "just as the queen bee holds the whole swarm and organizes the entire collective of bees around her, so does the language of a people, in our case - the Romanian language. It holds us all together", said Arcadie Suceveanu.

The Deputy Mayor, Ilie Ceban, congratulated the participants of the celebration on behalf of Mayor Ion Ceban. "We are the ones who teach children how to speak and how to read. It is what represents us", the deputy mayor said.

The series of events in the capital continued with the musical tableau "Sfântă ni-i casa" (Holy is our home) with the participation of the "Aldea-Teodorovici Orchestra". The program includes: the national contest "Dictation for everyone"; the theatrical presentation of the works of great classics, dedicated to the Romanian language, with the participation of the "Arta și gândul" (Art and Thought) laboratory-theatre; and the 31st edition of the exhibition of contemporary plastic art "Saloanele Moldovei". The celebration will conclude with the Literary Awards Gala "Writers for the capital and the capital for writers". The event will take place at the Moldovan Union of Writers, starting at 16:00.
