The interim mayor of Chisinau, Vasile Ursu has requested the Architect s’ Association to suggest a development concept of the Chisinau historical zone. According to this concept, in the historical zone, approved by the Government, are included 16-20 storied buildings, which do not have any architectural value. Ursu expressed this opinion during a round table organized at the City Hall on the occasion of the International Day of Architects. According to the chairman of the Architect Association, Vasile Eremciuc, the historical zone is a troublesome issue of the city, considering the state of the historical monuments that have been neglected and left to fall apart. According to the cited source, Chisinau doesn’t have a well established policy about the historical area, and doesn’t have detailed plans of each Chisinau’s district, according to which the construction of architectural monuments won’t affect other historical monuments. Vasile Eremciuc referred to the sculptural composition „Dragos Voda – first ruler of Moldova”, for the elaboration of which the City Hall announced an auction and which is supposed to be placed on the site of a previously demolished monument. The interim mayor Vasile Ursu announced that in December, the General Urban Plan (GUP) of Chisinau municipal will be opened for public discussions, and in March 2007 it could be approved by the Municipal Council and the Government. The chairman of the Architects Association, Vasile Eremciuc, a developer of the GUP, announced that the impression is that the authorities do not want it to be a solid document, considering the tight deadlines presented to the specialists for its development. The General Urban Plan of Chisinau is currently being drafted by a consortium led by “Urbanproiect” Institute.
