Inhabitants living near the sewerage disposal plant located in Chisinau will have to bear the unpleasant smell, caused by the fermentation of the mud deposited on the accumulation platforms, 2-3 years more if it will not be transported outside Chisinau. The Director General of JSC “Apa Canal Chisinau” (ACC), Constantin Becciev said that for the first time something is truly done in order to solve this problem. At the moment, the research on the implementation capacity of the plant’s reconstruction project is being finished. It was drafted by a consortium of specialists from Moldova and the Czech Republic. All the necessary expertise has been done. The document should be approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council. Shortly the technical project will be finished, and until October it will be organized a contest for selecting the company which will perform the first stage of the reconstruction works. According to Becciev, ACC pumps every 24 hours about 150 cubic meters of mud, which stays after the residual water is processed. However, this procedure is not sufficient for eliminating the unpleasant smell, which troubles the inhabitants of Chisinau city, especially in the summer time. The mud which was accumulated during 7-8 years remains unprocessed – about 630 thousand cubic meters, volume which exceeds 3-fold the accessible norms. The head of ACC states that the reconstruction works will allow processing the whole quantity of mud. Gradually the inhabitants of Chisinau will not feel the smell, but it will not happen immediately after the first project’s implementation stage. In order to fasten the settlement of the problem, it was proposed to evacuate the mud outside Chisinau. The cost of the works constitutes MDL 25-30 mln. CMC did not yet accept the proposal. The Chairman of the Chisinau’s Territorial Organization of the Ecologist Movement, Vladimir Garaba supports the proposal on evacuating the mud. According to the quoted source, researches showed that the concentrations of hard metals, pesticides and pathogenic microbes in the mud does not exceed the normative limits and it can be used as fertilizer, at least for technical crops. In high concentrations, the mud can affect the environment but it is not dangerous if deposited outside localities. Reconstruction works will last 5 years. For the first stage of the project about MDL 53 mln are necessary. The financing scheme of the project is to be decided in the near future.
