Christopher Hoerl took the 40th position in downhill skiing at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The naturalized Austrian, who represents the Republic of Moldova, covered the distance in 1 minute and 45.21 seconds, IPN reports.
Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal became Olympic champion with the time of 1:40.25. His compatriot Kjetil Jansrud ranked second, while Beat Feuz of Switzerland finished third. The downhill competition was to involve 57 skiers from 27 countries, but two athletes didn’t make a start. Another two skiers didn’t finish the race.
This was the last event for Christopher Hoerl at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre. He is to travel to Italy where the European Alpine Skiing Cup starts next week.
The second Moldovan athlete at the Olympic Games Nicolae Gaiduc will compete in 15km free cross-country skiing on February 16, starting at 8am, Moldova’s time.
