As from October 19, the large users of water for industrial purposes in Chisinau, like combined heat & power (CHP) plants and the cardboard producer Moldcarton SA, are paying a tariff of 5.83 lei per cubic metre of water, as compared to 9.82 lei/m3 paid previously to Chisinau’s main water supplier Apa-Canal. According to the decision of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), published in the latest issue of the Official Gazette, the tariff was changed so as to correspond to the real cost of the services provided. ANRE coordinated the price cut with the Chisinau Municipal Council, which on October 11, besides lowering the charge for industrial water, raised by 38 percent the water rates for households. Starting October 11, household consumers pay 5.07 lei/m3 as compared to 3.67 lei/m3; entities pay 20.14 lei/m3 as compared to 14.9 lei m3.
