Chisinau vote recount postponed

The recount of votes for the Chisinau Municipal Council, set for Thursday, June 23, has been suspended by the Centru District Court, after a request to this effect was submitted by an unnamed councilman elected on the Communist Party's list. Central Election Commission chairman Iurie Ciocan has told Info-Prim Neo the applicant complained to the court that the electoral bureaus which were supposed to recount the ballots haven't been changed, meaning that the same persons that counted the votes in the first place were also assigned to do the recount. The recount has been postponed for an undetermined period of time. On Wednesday, the ballots cast for the Municipal Council were transferred to the district offices to be then distributed to the electoral bureaus for recount. The recount was ordered by the Chisinau Court of Appeals following a request submitted by the Liberal Party.
