Chisinau to host next CIS summit in fall

The next sitting of the Council of heads of states and governments of the Community of Independent States (CIS) will take place in October in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from a communique by the Moldovan Government. This was agreed at the last summit of the CIS premiers, held on Friday, May 23, in Minsk, and joined also by the Moldovan Prime-Minister Zinaida Greceanai. 21 social-economic matters were included on the order of the day of the summit. Thus, the Cabinet chiefs considered the information on drafting the Strategy of CIS economic development till 2020, on coordinating policies in road infrastructure, on developing a set of joint measures to strengthen the food safety of the member-states, on cooperating in modernizing railways. The top officials also agreed on the Action Plan to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Second World War, to institute a commemorative medal on that occasion and to grant subsidies to war veterans and participants to travel within the CIS. Zinaida Greceanai met with her counterparts from Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Yulia Timoshenko, approaching matters of mutual interest. Zinaida Greceanai was invited to pay a working visit to Moscow, and she accepted. The diplomats are to agree on the dates. After the summit, the Moldovan Premier met with the Moldovan diaspora in Belarus. The CIS heads of governments meet four times a year, as the hosting country is chosen by rotation. Members of the Community of the Independent States, that Russian media style as Commonwealth, are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
