The joint meeting of the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania will take place in Chisinau. The announcement was made in a joint news conference given by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania Ion-Marcel Ciolacu in Chisinau. The meeting of the two legislative bodies will be something of a novelty and will take place in June, IPN reports.
Igor Grosu said that Romania has always stood by the Republic of Moldova and helped it to easier overcome different crises and to implement important projects. “Romania is the Republic of Moldova’s most important friend in the European integration process and I bank on your assistance, Mister President, in helping us make concrete progress in our path of European integration based on your state and political stances,” stated the Moldovan Speaker.
For his part, Ion-Marcel Ciolacu reiterated that the Republic of Moldova’s place is in the European Union. “There is no other development path for the Republic of Moldova than the entry into the EU. Romania does not do the Republic of Moldova a favor. It is its obligation to help the Republic of Moldova throughout this course,” noted the Romanian official.
He also said that after the joint meeting of the two legislatures, the European and parliamentary dimensions will follow another logical path. “I came with a delegation of experts in the field and hope that in the immediate period we will accelerate cooperation on this parliamentary dimension. The Republic of Moldova goes through a period of transition, of harmonization of its legislation with that of the European Union. Romania did this a number of years ago. It will be regrettable not to work together in the field of legislation so that we are more efficient and increase pace for the Republic of Moldova to become a fully-fledged member of the EU,” stated Ion-Marcel Ciolacu.
The President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania Ion-Marcel Ciolacu is making a visit to Chisinau on the invitation of Speaker Igor Grosu.
