People have been late to work today because of the minibus drivers’ strike. Authorities say that despite supplementing the number of buses and trolleybuses these are still overloaded. Gheroghe Morgoci, head of the Chisinau Electric Transport Network (RTEC), told Info-Prim Neo that 20 additional trolleybuses had been dispatched. “Early in the morning I visited some districts in the capital and I see that trolleybuses circulate very often. The problem is that people are used to get out at a certain time, the peak hour, and that’s why trolleybuses are overloaded. The solution would be for people to get up earlier”, said the RTEC director. Gheorghe Morgoci added that RTEC would do a study in order to estimate the passenger flow on the peak hour. During the day, if needed, trolleybus routes would be supplemented with 5-6 more units. Director of the Urban Bus Company Iacob Capcelea said that buses were dispatched on suburban routes to Staucei, Dumbrava, Vatra, Budesti, where they didn’t circulate previously. In other suburbs that previously had both bus and minibus routes, the number of buses was supplemented with 16 units. If needed, even more buses will be deployed. Minibus drivers went on strike demanding the fare to be increased from 3 to 5 lei.
