A police officer from the Rascani Police Inspectorate of Chisinau was handcuffed in the courtroom after the judge convicted him of passive corruption and abuse of power and sentenced him to five years in jail, IPN reports.
The prosecutors proved that last autumn, the police officer asked 8,000 lei from three men for not holding them accountable for acts of hooliganism. In another case, he asked and received 20,000 lei from a woman for dropping the charges of theft against her.
The policeman was arrested by anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the Ministry of the Interior immediately after taking the money.
The police officer was also fined 80,000 lei. The sentence is not yet definitive.
