A functionary of the Centru district head’s office of Chisinau was arrested on drugs distribution charges. The 28-year-old man was handcuffed by masked men on November 25, IPN reports.
Sources in the police said the functionary, who is a specialist of the Centru Amenities Division, is suspected of selling heroine at the price of 2,000 lei per gram. Before the arrest, an officer under cover made a control purchase.
Investigation officers had followed the functionary for a month. When he was arrested, he had several doses of heroine on him.
The functionary was placed under arrest for 72 hours initially and faces up to 15 years in jail.
Earlier, a number of NGOs and employees of law enforcement agencies said Moldova witnesses a serious situation as regards drug trafficking as an increasing number of public servants, including of the law, are involved in such schemes. A number of police officers, doctors and even teachers were arrested on drug distribution charges during the past month.
