A regional workshop themed “Preparing Hospitals for Emergencies, with Emphasis on the Pandemic Influenza A(H1N1)” is taking place in Chisinau between September 22 and 24, organized with the assistance of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe, Info-Prim Neo reports. WHO program coordinator in Moldova Silviu Domente has told Info-Prim Neo that such preparations are necessary for coping with any emergency. “No one can say what will happen in Moldova. The pandemic flu A(H1N1) is unpredictable. Now we have minor cases, but it is not excluded that this flu can cause much more serious damage in the country,” Silviu Domente said. According to the organizers, representatives of health ministries and medical institutions from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova as well as WHO experts came together at the workshop to strengthen the health managers' capacity to prepare for emergencies, including pandemic flu. The workshop participants will also discuss the recent related strategies and recommendations of the WHO.
