Capital’s deputy mayor Veaceslav Iordan will serve as interim general mayor of Chisinau Municipality until local elections will be held. An order in this respect was made public by the former interim mayor Vasile Ursu, the incumbent Minister of Transport and Road Management, at the extraordinary session of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) held on Thursday, January 25, Info-Prim Neo reports. Earlier, Ursu assured the councillors that he “will continue to cooperate with the municipality, given that a great share of the municipal property is under the transportation and road management”. The former interim mayor expressed his hope that this cooperation would bring good results, as it previously did. Ursu stated further that he will try to make as much as possible not just for Chisinau, but also for the rest of the country. He told the councillors that although he is leaving, his heart “is still with the capital”, because he had been living in Chisinau ever since he was a student, and everything that happens in the capital matters for him. Ursu also stated that, after his consultations with the CMC majority, communist and Christian-democrat parties, considered by him as the “leading voice” of the Council, he decided to pass his office to Veaceslav Iordan, who became deputy mayor after he had been a councillor of the Communist faction in CMC. In his inauguration speech, Iordan stated that he “will make all that is possible in order to respond to all the interpellations of the councillors, citizens and the entire municipality.” Thus, except for Iordan, the capital’s City Hall has a single deputy mayor – Petru Svet, who is also a former councillor of the communist faction. A part of the councillors refused to sign the gratitude letter of the Municipal Council for Vasile Ursu, which was read by CMC interim secretary Nicolae Manastarli, who specified that the letter is an initiative of the communist and Christian-democrat representatives.
