The official Chisinau condemns the attempts made by the administration of the Transnistrian region to class the citizens of the Republic of Moldova as foreigners in their own country and to make them go through checkpoints. The Moldovan delegation stated its position in the July 4 meeting of the Joint Control Commission, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Commission.

The dispute between the two sides was aroused by the regular abusive activities of the Transnistrian bodies that try to institute a “border” in the Security Zone. The OSCE suggested compromise solutions that can help remedy the situation and initiate discussions on the creation of the Zagornoe-Copanca checkpoint, but the JCC members on behalf of the Transnistrian region didn’t accept the proposals of the mediators.

No progress was made over the Transnistrian border guards’ post that was set up unilaterally near Pohrebea village on May 1 this year. Also, a consensus could not be reached to allow military observers to travel to the scene to document the violation of the Commission’s decision of February 16, 2012.

The meeting approved the Joint Military Command’s report for the period between June 26 and July 2. In the debate on the report, Moldova’s delegation pointed to the insufficiency of data about the storage/destruction of munitions and explosives found in the Security Zone. It was proposed entrusting the superior military chiefs with the task of working out relevant control procedures.
