Interim mayor Vasile Ursu urges the Chisinau Municipality General Police Commissariat and the respective departments of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to ensure the implementation of the municipal action plan for improving the situation in road traffic security till 2009, recently worked out and approved by the Chisinau City Hall, Info-Prim Neo reports, citing the City Hall Press service.
At the same time, according to the source, the interim mayor requests that this Plan is implemented within the limits of the allocated budgetary sources. Police and CMC are obliged to permanently inform the city hall about the level of fulfilment of these provisions. Deputy mayor Veaceslav Iordan has been assigned responsible for the control upon the execution of this order.
Solicited by Info-Prim Neo to comment upon the new Plan of improving the road accidents situation, the head of the Chisinau Road Police, Grigore Guzun stated that he doesn’t know about the existence of the Plan. Moreover, he has not participated in its working out, although the road accident situation in the Capital is part of the competences of the institution he heads.
Guzun doubts that the local public administration will operate more productively in the field. Furthermore, the head of the Road Police asserts that the local administration in obliged to create a commission concerning the road circulation security, meeting all the decision makers from the municipal subdivisions, responsible of this field. At the moment, Guzun says, there is no such commission, although the Road Police sent the mayor a petition in this respect.
According to Guzun, road accidents occur not only because of jaywalkers and drivers but also because the lack of the respective marking and road signs, as well as because of the lack of public lights, which are part of the municipality’s competences.
