Chisinau has sent an official letter to Tiraspol with the authorities' latest proposal for resolving the crisis in the region, IPN reports.

The document was sent through the communication channel of the political representatives in the Transnistrian settlement negotiations, the Reintegration Policy Office said.

Government officials "are waiting for a response and a measured decision for the benefit of citizens on both banks of the Dniester".

The European Commission proposed a €30 million emergency assistance package on Monday as a first step to help Moldova deal with the serious energy crisis caused by Gazprom. Through this package, the EU is ready to finance the purchase and transportation of natural gas to the Transnistrian region to help restore electricity and heating supplies to more than 350,000 people in the region by February 10.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has announced that three million cubic meters of natural gas can be delivered to the Transnistrian region on the basis of a loan contract to be concluded by Moldovagaz SA and Tiraspoltransgaz LLC. The agreement will be guaranteed by the European Union. According to the decision of the Commission for Exceptional Situations, the volume of gas will be returned by March 1, 2025, and if it is not possible to return it in physical form, the gas will be paid for.
