By the start of the cold season, another apartment building on Pandurilor Street in Chisinau will be equipped with an energy-saving autonomous heating system with horizontal distribution, under a partnership between the city’s main heat supplier Termoelectrica and Green City Lab, IPN reports.

The new system, which provides hot water in addition to heating up radiators, promises to cut heating bills by up to 30%.

Other advantages include having a heating and hot water meter in every apartment, the possibility for each apartment to switch the heating on and off at any time, and the possibility to regulate temperatures.

Under the partnership, Termoelectrica is responsible for designing the system, installing a unit for hot water provision, installing heating and hot water meters, and installing the main pipes.

Green City Lab Moldova, for its part, will be responsible for installing the internal subsystems in every apartment and connecting them to the main pipes. These costs will be covered by the UNDP Moldova’s “Sustainable Green Cities for Moldova” Projects.

To date, 57 apartment blocks have been equipped with autonomous centralized heating systems. Green City Lab Moldova is currently implementing three demonstrative projects funded by “Sustainable Green Cities”. They involve energy efficiency for multi-storied buildings (in partnership with Termoelectrica), distributed generation of renewable electric energy, and the collection of plastic bottles through automatic machines.
