The local authorities in Chisinau plan to carry out several projects to build and repair the streets in the capital city, but three of them will be of major importance in 2008. The financial resources needed to implement them will be identified while examining the draft municipal budget in second reading. Chisinau Chief Architect Vladimir Modarca has recently asked the local authorities to earmark money to extend Mircea cel Batran Boulevard in Ciocana district until Bucovina Street. According to Modarca, about 3,000 apartments will be put in commission next year in quarter 8 of Budesti 1 sector. The inhabitants of the new blocks will not have direct access to the boulevard. The architect says that the boulevard must be extended also because the quarter 9 of the same sector will be developed as well. The first Mall in Moldova is being built in the same region. It will be opened in the near future. Another important project for the municipality next year will be the construction of a road that will join Studentilor Street in Rascani district and Mircea cel Batran Boulevard. This will enable to ease the traffic on Aleco Russo Street. The authorities also intend to repair Muncesti Street. According to Veaceslav Tarna, head of the General Transport and Communication Ways Division, the draft municipal budget for 2008 includes about 500 mln lei that will be used for transport necessities in Chisinau, except the suburbs. But this sum is too small compared with the real necessities and the rising prices of construction materials.
