A child aged five from Sturzovca village of Glodeni district was rushed to the hospital with injuries that he sustained when several bricks from a flimsy wall fell over him at the nursery school. The boy underwent surgery.

The bricks fell down from a wall built at the entrance to the nursery when the child wanted to enter. The incident happened before the eyes of his mother who took the child to the nursery school. The wall became unstable when another woman leaned against it.

The boy was taken to the Emergencies Department of the Balti Municipal Hospital. “The child suffered a brain trauma, a concussion, head wounds and severe contusion,” the Surgery Section’s head Anatol Bernic has told IPN.

Anatol Bernic said it is the duty of the administration of preschool institutions to ensure the security of children. The area where the children spend time and the objects on the playground must be scrupulously examined. The parents must do the same at home. The objects that can fall over kids, can break when falling or can wound or sting the children must be removed. The heavy objects must be fixed well.

According to the Ministry of Health, the traumas and poisonings are leading causes of death among children aged between one and five in Moldova. In 2014, 43 children of such an age died because of traumas, burns and poisonings. During six years, the REPEMOL (Regionalization of Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Service in Moldova) Project, in cooperation with the authorities, have informed the parents about the measures that they must take to prevent home accidents involving children under five within the campaign “A danger-free home for your child”.
