The two-year-old child from Ungheni, who fell from the sixth floor into the elevator shaft, is still in a coma. Contacted by IPN for detail, spokesman for the Mother and Child Institute Maxim Cazacu said that no essential changes in the patient’s condition have been seen.

Meanwhile, the Ungheni mayor’s office announced that, after checking 78 elevators in the town, only 45 have been restarted. The others were stopped to remove the detected defects.

The intervention group has so far checked 78 of the 100 elevators in the town. “The conclusion is not really satisfactory. Only 45 elevators were restarted. The rest have various defects that are to be dealt with in the coming days. The intervention group, which includes specialists in the field, under the guidance of experts from Chisinau, continues the checks,” the mayor’s office said. At the same time, the local authorities ordered the creation of a division for the management of elevators as part of the municipal enterprise “Servicii Comunale Ungheni”.

The case occurred on September 11 in a residential block in Ungheni. Preliminarily, it was established that the mother put the stroller between the doors to hold the elevator and returned to get a bag. At that point, she heard a noise. The boy fell into the elevator shaft when the elevator went up to one of the upper floors.
