The chief doctor of the Rezina Public Health Center was charged with professional misconduct that resulted in the poisoning of a number of students by an insecticide. Prosecutors completed the investigation and sent the case to court, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the incident occurred at the Theoretical Lyceum “Ion Creanga” in Cuizauca village of Rezina district on March 3 this year, when a minor girl accidentally broke an ampoule with insecticide BI-58, which was transmitted to her by her aunt. As a result, 17 students were poisoned by the insecticide.
Though he knew about this case, the chief doctor of the Rezina Public Health Center didn’t order to close the lyceum until all the risks were excluded and allowed the students to return to classes. After inhaling insecticide vapors, 36 students of the lyceum were admitted to the district hospital and the Mother and Child Institute in Chisinau with insecticide poisoning.
Immediately after this case, the Rezina Prosecutor’s Office took legal action over violation of the rules of keeping and transporting pesticides. Prosecutors requested the Rezina Public Health Center to suspend the culprit from post. This was banned from leaving the settlement and faces up to six years in jail and ban on performing particular activities or holding particular posts for a period of up to ten years.
The case was remitted to the Rezina Court, which is to also try the case started against the student’s aunt over violation of the rules of transporting and keeping toxic substances that led to mass poisoning.
