The charter flights by which the mayor of Bălți town Renato Usatyi promised that Moldovans who got stuck in European states because of the COVID-19 pandemic will be taken home through the Iasi airport in Romania will no longer be operated. Even if the official said the number of persons who asked for assistance is higher than that of applicants who sought help from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the problem he faces in the organization of flights cannot be solved, IPN reports.
“I cannot solve the problem today as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova must come to terms with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania so that this allows the Moldovans to land at the airport in Iasi. This is the problem I face,” Renato Usatyi stated in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.
The leader of the Our Party said that all the organizational details were discussed with the director of the Iasi airport, except a detail – that the persons are citizens of the Republic of Moldova without Romanian nationality.
“I was told that this is possible, but when they saw that there were citizens with Moldovan nationality only, the authorities told me to wait. The first lists I compiled included all those who had double nationality.”
Asked if these flights will yet take place, Renato Usatyi didn’t provide a clear answer. He noted that he didn’t promise the citizens that he would bring them home, but only offered his assistance.
Earlier, Renato Usatyi organized a charter flight by which Moldovans were taken home from France.
