The employee of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER), who was accused of facilitating the obtaining of a license for the import and sale of fuel, is no longer under investigation.  The charges were dropped for the reason that the acts do not constitute the elements of a crime. The Agency noted that the ordinance was issued by the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office following the conducted investigation, IPN reports.

“The Agency emphasizes the intolerant attitude towards any form of illicit behavior, such actions being fought by all legal means. The investigation showed that the NAER employee did not commit the acts of which he was suspected, and the NAC’s press release of May 24, 2024, which was widely disseminated, created a false image of him and of the institution in general. Out of respect for the truth and in order to protect the professional integrity of the employees, the Agency considers it is necessary to publicly clarify the situation,” reads a press release.

On May 24, officers of the National Anticorruption Center raided the National Agency for Energy Regulation. A consultant of the Agency’s Licensing Division was suspected of acting in the interests of an economic operator in order to speed up the process of registering primary documents in order to obtain a license. The law enforcement agencies said the suspect allegedly exerted influence on members of the NAER’s commission, who, for their part, were to facilitate the process of obtaining the license. As a result, the license was issued the day after the submission of the package of documents.
