The examination of the case initiated against the capital’s former general mayor Serafim Urecheanu, head of parliamentary faction “Moldova Noastra” Alliance, accused of exceeding his authority when purchasing the ambulances for the Emergency Hospital, was arranged for December 19. The pannel of judges of the Centru District Court, presided by Nadejda Mazur, decided at Tuesday’s session (November 28) just on the date when the case will be examined, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Today’s lawsuit was scheduled two weeks ago, after seven months of preliminary hearings. Although the schedule provided for starting the trial at 8.30 pm, it began around 9.00 pm and was over in several minutes. Nadejda Mazur asked for lawyer Vasile Rahlea’s opinion on the list of proofs presented by prosecutor Alexandru Bernaz and requested the list of proofs of defense. Rahlea stated that, for the time being, he cancels their presentation until they come into possession of the Decision of the Plenum of Supreme Court of Justice. Shortly after these specifications, the session’s head set the date for case’s examination, negotiating with the sides involved in the trial for another 2-3 days “for working”.
Requested by Info-Prim Neo, Serafim Urecheanu declared that the repeated cancellation of the trial shows once more that the judges have nothing to say at these sessions. “President Voronin is the one who pulls the strings, and he will be held answerable for all the wrongdoings that are happening in Moldova”, Urecheanu said.
Urecheanu pleads not guilty, affirming that he will prove this thing at the trial “if it starts at last”. AMN leader also said that in the nearest time he will submit a request to the European Court of Human Rights. “It will be the first political case and I will ask for damages totaling millions dollars that I will use for charity”, Serafim Urecheanu mentioned.
The first session in the “case of ambulances” was held on 14 April 2006, the preliminary hearings being finalized only on November 13, though the legislation stipulates their conclusion within ten days.
