Central bank intervenes in interbank market by selling US$11.3m

The coverage of the economic agents’ net demand for foreign currency through the net supply of foreign currency from individuals in October was 82.7 percent, compared to 96.3 percent in September, IPN reports.

According to the National Bank of Moldova, against the previous month, the net supply of foreign currency from individuals decreased by US$52.0 million (-17.7%). The net demand for foreign currency from economic agents declined by US$12.6 million (-4.1%).

Under these conditions, the central bank intervened in the local interbank market through net sales in the volume of US$11.3 million.

The exchange rate of the Moldovan leu against the US dollar last month grew by 1.6% on average to 17.7179 USD/MDL, compared to 17.4471 USD/MDL a month earlier. According to the values at the end of October, it increased by 2.9%.
