A Center of excellence, where National Army personnel will be trained to execute mine clearing missions on national territory and abroad, was established in Negreşti, Strășeni. Starting with 2013, the US government has invested nearly 400 thousand dollars to construct and equip the Center with specialized equipment.

At the inauguration, the commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Igor Gorgan, said that the institution has an important role due to unexploded ammunition remaining from World War II on the territory of Moldova. The military personnel enrolled in training courses at the Center will be taught the most modern techniques for carrying out mine clearance missions.

So far, within the project, in addition to constructing and equipping the Center of excellence with the necessary equipment, the US has donated to the National Army special backpacks and 18 mine detectors. Moldovan engineers will be trained by the National Guard of North Carolina.

The project will be completed in 2024.
