The maintaining of the decision to establish two polling stations in Bender municipality and a polling station in Corjova commune by the Central Election Commission would have exposed the whole electoral process to risks, said political experts who consider the decision to eliminate them is correct, IPN reports.
The CEC reviewed its decision and decided to remove the three polling stations, decreasing this way the number of stations intended for the Transnistrian region to 41. Polling places on the territory that is temporary outside the control of the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova will not be thus established.
“This subject is profoundly politicized. It’s clear that some of the forces want to obtain the vote of citizens from the Transnistrian region at any cost. But the subject is rather technical. Tiraspol transmitted the signal that the security of voting cannot be guaranteed and Chisinau decided to give up or the whole electoral process would have been subjected to risks,” political commentator Corneliu Ciurea stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.
Moreover, the establishment of the three polling stations would have created preconditions for rigging the elections as the voters would have been transported to polling stations in an organized way and would have been corrupted, said experts.
“There are a number of criteria based on which we can say if the elections are free, fair and democratic. These are the presence of the national police that would ensure public order, the possibility for election contenders to campaign, the access of the media, the access of observers. None of these conditions can be ensured. That’s why the CEC’s decision is absolutely correct,” stated political expert Vladislav Kulminski.
According to the State Register of Voters, there are over 258,000 citizens with the rights to vote in the Transnistrian region.
