The Central Election Commission (CEC) accepted independent candidate Silvia Radu’s request to annul the decision to register the candidate of the Party “Ravnopravie”/Shor Party Inna Popenko as a runner in the October 30 presidential elections by eight votes for and an abstention. The relevant documents are to be sent to court for taking a decision, IPN reports.

Silvia Radu accused Inna Popenko and her representatives of staging an electoral event in Rascani district of Chisinau, where she offered the voters discount cards for a social shop that is to be opened soon.

The representatives of Inna Popenko said it wasn’t an electoral event and initially the candidate didn’t take part in this and came only when the police became involved.

CEC member Iurie Ciocan said that if such a card is issued during the election campaign, by making particular promises about immediate or future benefits, this can be classed as attempt to corrupt voters.

The Appeals Court has five days to pronounce on this case. Its decision can be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice. If the judges decide to exclude Inna Popenko from the race for the presidency, there will be only ten candidates running in the October 30 elections.
